Waterloo Field Target Club

The Waterloo Field Target Club is a section of the Elmira Rod and Gun Club. Field Target Shooting is a simulated hunting game using air rifles.

The object of this simulated hunting game is to place a shot through a hole in the target face (the hit zone) unlocking the mechanism and allowing the target to fall over. The difficulty of the shot is manipulated by varying the shooting position or by changing the size of the hit zone. Outdoors, targets are positioned 10-55 yards from the firing position, from where when required, they are reset by pulling a line. Typically, shooters move through the course in squads of  three, walking along a woodland path to the next shooting lane. Encountering their next targets they use the prone, sitting or standing position to make their shots.

Although any accurate air rifle with a muzzle velocity over 750 fps is adequate for this sport, most clubs place a limit on airguns used to a maximum of twenty foot pounds of energy to avoid target damage.

Matches are held throughout the year , including the Ontario Field Target Championships in August and a fun shoot at Christmas.
